MINUTES of THE ANNUAL MEETING for the PARISHES OF BARKSTON AND SYSTON

Held in The Village Hall, Barkston, on Monday 13th May 2024 at 7.45 pm

Present: Councillors M.E. Nussey (Chair) A.C. Card (Vice Chair), P.C Connor, A. Hine C.I. Pell and A. Rowell.

Also Present: District Councillor Peter Stephens and 10 members of the public.

Apologies for Absence: Councillors S. Elnor, S.A. Micklewright, and R. Parke, 

1. MINUTES

The minutes of the last Annual Parish Meeting were read, approved as a correct record and signed by the Chairman.

The Chair updated the meeting that the request for a reduction of the speed limit on Hough Road to 30 mph was still ongoing but was currently not supported by highways.

The Chair also advised the meeting that the planning application to extend the hours the dog paddock could be used was granted.

2. MATTERS RAISED BY PARISHIONERS

A resident raised concerns over the regular flooding on Hough Road which was resulting vehicles damaging the Verge. 

Another resident asked about the Parish councils’ role in the community and how they can engage with the community more. Such as re instating the village magazine and communicating via social media. The chair advised that unfortunately no one had come forward to continue the village newsletter when the previous editor gave notice.

Concerns were raised over the condition of the road/path in front of the arms houses and it was confirmed that the concerns for the safety of the residents has been raised with Highways and is an ongoing issue.
